Frequently asked questions
Is Recapped free?
Recapped is free to download. The photo of the year, your year in numbers, your people, your pets, the Crossed Paths invite and the first 5 seconds of the 30-second video are free. A one-time purchase of $4.99 unlocks everything else (introductory price $3.99 until December 7, 2026). There is no subscription, no trial and no ads.
Does Recapped upload my photos?
No. Every photo is analysed on your iPhone with Apple's on-device frameworks. Photos, faces, locations and results are never uploaded to us, and there is no account to create. The app only talks to Apple: Maps to draw the map, Apple's reverse geocoding for approximate place names, and the App Store for the purchase.
Which iPhones does it work on?
Recapped needs an iPhone running iOS 18 or later. It is not available for iPad or Android.
How long does it take?
The first run takes about 30 seconds for a typical photo library. Later launches are instant because the results are cached on your iPhone.
How is the photo of the year picked?
Recapped scores your photos on the iPhone using Apple's aesthetics analysis, gives extra weight to favourites and to photos with people or pets, and skips screenshots and documents. You can read the full method in the photo of the year guide.
How do I share to Instagram or TikTok?
Cards come in 9:16 for Stories, Reels and TikTok, and in 1:1 square. Tap Save to put a card in your Photos, or Share to send it straight to an app. The 30-second video has a 15-second cut for Instagram Stories, and Save all turns every card into one photo post.
Is there a Spanish version?
Yes. Recapped is available in English and Spanish, and this website and its support pages are available in both.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you reinstall or change phones, tap Restore purchases on the unlock screen to get your unlock back for free.
